I’ll Have a Gin and Tonic (for My Hair)!

September 30th, 2009

There are many home-made solutions and tonics to soothe an angry scalp and to rejuvenate your hair. This article will address the various natural remedies which have been tried and proven true.

1.      Peel and mix a ripe Avocado with a teaspoon of wheat-germ oil and a teaspoon of jojoba oil. Wash hair then apply it to your scalp.  Manage it all the way to the ends of your hair. Cover your scalp (not your head) with a shower cap or a plastic, wait 15 to 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

2.      Rub a small amount of beef marrow (refined) onto your scalp and into hair roots.  Follow with shampoo.  Rinse out completely.

3.      Get plenty of sunlight and fresh air.  Wear a hat because too much sunlight can damage hair by drying them out. In addition, your follicles can be damaged (burned) by overexposing to direct sunlight.

4.      Rub Mayonnaise into your hair and leave in for about an hour. Follow with shampoo regimen and rinse thoroughly.

Leave-in Conditioners

Tip: When using conditioners, start at the ends of hair then go towards the root/scalp.

Note: A “rinse” is typically applied after shampooing hair.
Odor: Several of these Leave-in hair conditioners use onions, garlic, vinegar, hard liquor or peppers and are very aromatic.  To negate embarrassment, keep in mind the people who may live with you, your work schedule and free time when deciding to attempt the hair conditioners below. The odors will become less noticeable to you the longer the conditioner is in your hair, so keep that in mind.

1.      Homemade hair conditioner: Mix equal parts olive oil and aloe vera gel (start with a couple ounces of each.) Add rosemary essential oil (about 5-7 droplets). Apply to your hair starting at the tips and work your way to the scalp and roots.  Leave it on for up to two hours, and then rinse it out.

2.      If you have extra dry hair and you do not have time to mix up a solution, simply use a small amount of non-greasy hand or body lotion.  Mix it in your palm with a few drops of water to thin it out if necessary then distribute it through your hair.  A good lotion will include natural, non petroleum-derived ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal.

3.      Combine 1 Tbsp of ginger juice with 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. Massage the mixture onto scalp before bed.  Cover your head with shower cap or secure a cloth wrap. Upon arising, make solution of 1 quart of warm water and 1 Tablespoon of pure apple cider vinegar to use in the shower as a scalp rinse after your normal shampoo routine.

4.      Mix a Tablespoon of pure honey with a 1/3 cup of juice from an onion. Massage the scalp with the mixture every day. Odor

5.      Mix 1.5 fluid ounces of quality vodka with a Tablespoon of honey and onion juice. Rub the concoction onto your scalp nightly.  Cover it with a shower cap while sleeping.  In the morning, wash hair normally with shampoo, conditioner and rinse out well. Odor

6.      Take sesame or olive oil and rub it on your scalp nightly. Cover your head with shower cap or secure a cloth wrap. Upon arising, make solution of 1 quart of warm water and 1 Tablespoon of pure apple cider vinegar to use in the shower as a scalp rinse after your normal shampoo routine.

7.      Take .5 teaspoon of cayenne (pepper) and mix it into 1.5 ounces of vodka. Rub onto scalp. Cover your scalp with a shower cap before turning to bed. In the morning, rinse off scalp after your normal shampoo routine. Repeat daily or as often as desired. Odor

8.      Before bed, massage a mixture of equal parts olive and rosemary oils onto scalp. Cover your scalp with a shower cap. In the morning, rinse off scalp after your normal shampoo routine. Repeat daily or as often as desired.

9.      Massage straight garlic oil (juice of garlic) onto your scalp. A variation would be to mix garlic with a little olive oil to help with spreadability. Cover your scalp with a shower cap before turning to bed. In the morning, rinse off scalp after your normal shampoo routine. Repeat daily or as often as desired. Odor

10.  Cut an onion in half and use the halves to rub directly onto your scalp before bed.  Cover your scalp with a shower cap before turning to bed. In the morning, rinse off scalp after your normal shampoo routine. Repeat daily or as often as desired. Odor

Eat Like You Mean It!

September 30th, 2009

Overall, your diet and general health is reflected in your hair.  Your hair is fed by your bloodstream, thus if your liver and kidneys are healthy, it should show on the outside of your body.  You can also look at the quality and vitality of your skin and the whiteness of your eyes.  If your hair is dry and brittle or your skin is dry and itchy, your diet should be adjusted. Here are some suggestions for the overall body health including your scalp and hair health:

  1. Avocado: Moisturizes hair shafts and strengthens with healthy proteins.
  1. A low-fat, high-fiber diet: A diet containing healthy amounts of fresh vegetables and fresh fruits plays a vital role in preventing the shedding of hair associated with aging. I say fresh because fruits and vegetables that are canned are usually stripped of some nutritional value and are preserved in sugars, syrups or salts.  Rarely is male-pattern hair loss reported in places where people consume the proper amounts of vegetables.
  1. Biotins: Mainly found in nuts, brown rice and oats.
  1. Citrus fruit: Eat after an iron-rich meal. Vitamin C is necessary in assimilating Iron.
  1. vegetables: Veggies such as leeks, cashews, berries, dried fruits, and figs.
  1. Nuts, seeds, avocados and olive oil: Get your Vitamin E in these tasty forms.  An easy way to incorporate this is by cooking with Olive Oil whenever possible.
  1. ORGANICALLY GROWN vegetables “Green Juices”: For hair and general physical health, consume several freshly prepared green juices a day.  Be sure to flavor to taste.

Juicing Tip: If you are new to juicing vegetables, start with a fruit juice like an orange or apple juice base then add berries, carrot or two and cucumber slices, etc. I have found that starting with sweet flavors and adding vegetables over time, will help you not be completely turned off to drinking a “veggie” drink.  Starting with a kale, broccoli, carrot and beat drink will make you think that the taste is just not worth the health benefits! Try pre-packaged green drinks either in powder form or in ½-gallon jugs at your local health food store.  Many pre-mixed green drinks are extremely tasty and the label will teach you more about what to put in your own mixes.

8.      Mix together (in even parts) carrot juice, lettuce and alfalfa sprouts. Blend in other fruits to personal taste.

  1. Proteins: Beans, nuts, fish, and lean poultry are great building blocks for hair.
  1. SOY: Strengthens hair and helps it grow. Found in soy drinks, tofu, and in soy protein drinks.  It is becoming more popular to find soy in many health foods.
  1. Walnuts, flaxseeds, and fish: (salmon) are excellent sources of Unsaturated Fatty Acids.  It is also found in POULTRY, EGGS, CEREALS and SOYBEAN OIL.  It is important to have the proper balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6.  Excessive amounts of O-6 relative to O-3 may cause health problems. A ration of 4 to 1 (Omega-6 to Omega-3) or lower is best.
  1. Silica-Rich foods: Strengthens hair and encourages growth. Increase intake of sprouts, potatoes with skins, cucumbers with their skins and peppers.
  1. Whole WHEAT grains: Good source of Biotin also found in milk and rice.
  1. Vitamin A-Rich foods: it can be dangerous to overdose on vitamin A; however receiving Vitamin A through natural sources average amounts can be safe and beneficial.  Vitamin A can be found in foods such as: liver, sweet potatoes, carrots, mangos, spinach, cantaloupe, dried apricots, milk, egg yolks and mozzarella cheese.

7 Days to End Hair Loss (day 7)

September 1st, 2009

Are you balding by choice?

I knew the shape and imperfections of my white scalp and I wasn’t
about to take a razor to my head and become a part of the BBC
(bald by choice). Hey, my scalp is polar bear-white and it isn’t
something that I want to show the world.

Going back to before I stumbled upon this method and the keys I
found that stopped my hair loss, I remember some days I would see
dozens of my hairs in my hands and on the floor of the shower.
It ruined my morning. I would even get rid of all of them so my wife
wouldn’t see them.

I knew that my dad & brothers are bald! Both of my grandfathers were
too!  I felt as though there was no way of escape.

My father and both grandfathers sported the traditional comb-over.
My mom said for my father, it started back when he was 27. Knowing
about his life back then, I imagine one big factor in his hair loss
was stress.

One of my brothers followed at 29 years old. One gave up on saving
his hair after spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars at a hair
treatment clinic ($400 per visit!). Since the failed treatments, he
has decided to keep his head shaved.

The methods are simple, natural and they work. The products are
inexpensive and easy to find. Now that you have stopped your hair
loss I challenge you to take that next step on your Hair Restoration
